Sandy Hammer > West front of the Wells Cathedral. Today was Ruth's birthday and she especially wanted to visit this cathedral on her birthday.
Sandy Hammer > The nave and it's scissor arch. The scissor arch was a medieval solution (1338-48) to sinking tower foundations.

Sandy Hammer > Modern chairs in the back of the quire (choir). I love the curves. Should have sat in one to see if it was comfy. Kind of reminds me of something conceived by Frank Lloyd Wright, though I am sure he didn't make these.
Sandy Hammer > The old quire. The oldest part of the cathedral. Under some stall are elaborately carved miserichords (Google it. I don't have room to explain here.) Flash photography is prohibited here because of the delicate embroideries. This photo was not taken with a flash.
Sandy Hammer > The main altar, looking toward the apse. The altar cloth was embroidered by Jane Lemon, a famed testile artist. Her designs are also found in the cathedrals in St. Albans, Ester, and Salisbury, as well as in Bath and Sherborne Abbeys.
